One of the "joys" of your first house is making it just how you want it to be. Of course, this rapidly turns into making it just what you can afford, so rather than replace the 70's-tastic fireplace, I decided to remove it completely.
After the gas man (he who deals with gas, rather than he who is gas) had capped off the gas, I proceeded to bash out the flue. This left me with a small hole in the side of my living room that I joked was a spy hole. Little did I realise that it was a real spy hole; just not a hole for me to spy out of.
While cleaning up the mess, I noticed the neighbour's cat starring in, so I ran upstairs and grabbed my camera. As I came down the stairs, said cat was sticking it's head through the hole and having a good ol' sniff at the masonry. Unfortunately, he ran off sharpish as soon as he noticed me, so this was the best I could capture.
