Everyone goes through an origami phase at some stage; mine was half way through University. For me, the ultimate challenge was the Kawasaki Rose, partly because it was so fiddly, partly because it had something like a hundred folds, but mostly because the only instructions I could find seemed to miss out the difficult bit in the middle.

I recently challenged a friend to make one, giving him two weeks so's he could make it for his fiancée in time for Valentine's day. Progress seemed to be made for the first couple of days until he reached the point where the instructions turned a bit fuzzy, and I haven't heard anything since. I wonder if he finished it.
